Nkosinathi Mdluli is a South African contemporary artist born in 1996 at Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal.
I specialise in theatre performance and collage to investigate the influence of popular culture in peoples' daily lives. My work analyses the influence of mass media on youth through the adaptation of fashion and elements of everyday lifestyle. My current work uses recycled materials which are neglected and thrown away. For example, I utilise found paper products from magazines and posters to catalogues and cardboard packaging for the purpose of archiving these everyday objects and the stories associated with them for the next generation. The print form is slowly being made redundant by the rapid development and evolution of technology. I try to make use of discarded paper materials to preserve the information being lost to the digital form and to repurpose and find new uses for everyday items.
