Thalente Khomo was born in 1995 at Gcilima in Margate on the KZN South Coast, South Africa. Khomo creates imaginative works in photography, performance and printmaking. Drawing on personal and cultural histories, her images give visual form to a world that is at once physical and spiritual, modern and ancient.
My photograpy questions the exploitation of young adults who are coerced into copulation at an early age, exposing their bodies as objects of adult life. I am interested in unpacking the memories of these young adults, and how their experiences become the baggage they carry into their futures. They are left with a distorted identity reflecting their past. I also investigate the parallels between the exploitation of women and environmental destruction.
